[2.0] Custom Domain Troubleshooting

If the status of your custom domain reads ‘Verification Failed’, the first troubleshooting step is reviewing its current DNS status.

  1. Access https://who.is/ and type your domain name exactly as it was added in bucket.io
  2. And click Search
  3. When the search is complete, click DNS Records

It should only display a CNAME record pointing to “domains.bucket.io”. Also, you might see an A Record pointing to 3.22.107.14 but don’t worry about that one - it is automatically added when the CNAME record is verified.

If this is what you are seeing, please reach out to support@bucket.io with the email associated with the bucket.io account and the domain in question.

If you see other records besides the ones pointed above, such as A record, TXT, CNAME, AA, or AAA it is likely you are experiencing a DNS hindrance and this is most common in Cloudflare. To fix it:

  1. Access your DNS settings
  2. There is an orange cloud next to your domain - turn it off (should turn gray)
  3. Allow a few minutes for the changes to propagate and try verifying your domain in bucket one more time

If you have any other DNS providers, and you do not see the CNAME record pointing to “domains.bucket.io” it means that the record was not correctly set up and we suggest reaching out to your domain administrator.
